Upper Hearthstone ¶
District Split — R4 Upper Hearthstone and Lower Hearthstone were once a single district. See Open Questions for the full resolution. The WA article treats them as sub-sections (“Upper Hearth” / “Lower Hearth”); by DM ruling they are distinct districts.
Overview ¶
Upper Hearthstone is located on slightly elevated ground in the Hearthstone area, and is the more established, affluent section. Its residents — skilled labourers, artisans, and craftspeople — take pride in their work and their community. The district orients itself toward Temple Way and Spireview, the wealthier neighbours to which it aspires.
When the Spillway expanded and physically divided the old Hearthstone, Upper Hearthstone’s political response was to build high walls. That choice both protected the district and widened the gulf between it and what became Lower Hearthstone.
Architecture & Streets ¶
Homes in Upper Hearthstone are neatly arranged, built from sturdy stone and polished wood. Narrow cobblestone streets wind through the area, lined with small parks, community gardens, and local gathering spaces.
Community Life ¶
Residents organise frequent events — harvest festivals, artisan showcases, and charity drives supporting neighbours in Lower Hearthstone and the Spillway. The community gardens are often tended collectively, providing fresh produce and reinforcing the district’s strong sense of unity.
Key Sites ¶
- The Hearth Square — A bustling plaza for celebrations, markets, and public meetings.
- Stonemason’s Guildhall — Where skilled labourers coordinate work and apprenticeships.
- The Hearthforge — A sub-district where artisans and craftspeople live and work. The Hearthforge Foundry (a communal forge) is its centrepiece.
Relationships with Other Districts ¶
- Temple Way — Proximity allows residents to participate in Aru’Mas's spiritual life. Many frequent the temples for blessings and guidance.
- Spireview — Upper Hearthstone’s artisans frequently work on contracts for the Sunspear Legion and other military operations.
- Lower Hearthstone — Complicated. Shared roots, divergent choices. Community efforts still cross the divide, but the wall is a daily reminder of the split.
- The Spillway — The reason for the split. Upper Hearthstone’s relationship with the Spillway is one of guarded distance.
