Jujurot the Shaper

The Muddy Miscreant of Aru’Mas

Early Life

Jujurot Ennathar was born on the desert world of Serqet to a family of esteemed geomancers. Known for their mastery of stone and earth, the Ennathars were highly respected in their isolated community. From an early age, Jujurot displayed a natural talent for manipulating earth, and his family hoped he would one day bring honor to their name. However, Jujurot’s lack of discipline and love of shortcuts often frustrated his mentors. Though he excelled at using his powers for mundane tasks like homework and chores, his potential never fully blossomed.

Arrival in Aru’Mas

Eager to escape the expectations of his family, Jujurot left Serqet and ventured to Aru’Mas, imagining himself as a future master of geomancy. Unfortunately, the city’s vibrant and competitive magical community quickly overwhelmed him. For every trick Jujurot could perform, there were ten others who could do it better. Humbled and increasingly out of his depth, Jujurot abandoned dreams of magical greatness and instead focused on carving out a niche where his modest skills could make an impact—albeit not in the most respectable way.

A Life of Petty Crime

Jujurot drifted into Aru’Mas’ criminal underworld, where his mud-crafting abilities earned him a small degree of notoriety. His powers allowed him to summon mud mephits, perfect for causing distractions or minor havoc, and craft mud hulks, lumbering but clumsy constructs that were more intimidating in appearance than actual effectiveness.

However, Jujurot’s plans often proved as flimsy as his mud creations. Whether botching a heist or bungling an ambush, Jujurot earned a reputation as a well-meaning but hapless troublemaker. To his dismay, most gangs and criminal organizations see him as more of a joke than a legitimate threat, though his antics occasionally cause headaches for his rivals and the authorities.

Powers and Abilities

While far from a magical powerhouse, Jujurot’s unique abilities make him a thorn in the side of his enemies—at least temporarily.

  • Mud Mephit Summoning: Jujurot conjures small, chaotic mud mephits. While amusingly mischievous, their antics often do more to annoy allies and enemies alike than accomplish anything meaningful.
  • Mud Hulk Creation: By gathering mud, Jujurot can create hulking constructs to do his bidding. While imposing in size, these hulks are slow, fragile, and prone to collapsing at inconvenient moments.
  • Terrain Manipulation: Jujurot’s ability to turn solid ground into sticky mud pits has derailed more than one pursuit or made a clean getaway frustratingly messy.

Reputation in the Underworld

Despite his aspirations to become a feared and respected figure in Aru’Mas, Jujurot is more often regarded as an amusing nuisance. He operates out of Ragmarket, where his schemes—ranging from botched robberies to mud-based pranks—are a source of endless gossip. Though not officially part of any gang, he occasionally teams up with minor players in the underworld, usually to mutual disappointment.

Jujurot’s antics often border on slapstick, earning him a reputation for incompetence. However, his persistence and sheer audacity have made him a minor celebrity among the city’s less discerning criminals.

Personality and Motivations

Jujurot is cocky, impulsive, and deeply insecure. He constantly tries to convince others (and himself) of his genius, even as his plans fall apart in spectacular fashion. Despite his shortcomings, Jujurot is not malicious—he is more interested in fame, recognition, and quick riches than causing real harm. He often underestimates his opponents and overestimates his own abilities, leading to his frequent downfall.

Underneath his bravado, Jujurot is surprisingly resourceful and occasionally shows glimmers of the talent his family believed he had. Whether through a lucky break or sheer determination, he sometimes pulls off feats that momentarily elevate him from laughingstock to genuine threat.

Base of Operations

Jujurot resides in a makeshift lair in the sewers beneath Ragmarket. His hideout is filled with mud sculptures, half-finished traps, and piles of useless junk he insists are “tools of the trade.” The lair is protected by an ever-changing assortment of mud mephits and hulks, which often cause more chaos for Jujurot than any intruders.

Legacy

While Jujurot’s schemes rarely succeed, his escapades have made him an unlikely folk hero among the downtrodden. Children in the Spillway tell exaggerated tales of “the Shaper’s great heists,” while his antics are a source of bemused frustration for the city’s law enforcement.

Ultimately, Jujurot the Shaper may never rise to true greatness, but his messy, often hilarious attempts ensure he’ll never be forgotten. For better or worse, Aru’Mas wouldn’t be quite the same without its resident mud-slinging misfit. Children …
